Avengers: Doomsday Still Filming Reshoots 6 Months Before Release

Marvel Studios is still hard at work on the most anticipated superhero film in years — and the clock is ticking.

In a new interview with Metro UK, Joe Russo confirmed that filming on Avengers: Doomsday is still actively taking place at Pinewood Studios in the UK. With the film set to release on December 18, 2026, that means production is ongoing just six months before audiences see the finished product.

Reshoots Are Normal — But the Scale Is Not

Marvel Studios has a well-known reputation for extensive reshoots. Films like Avengers: Endgame, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and Thor: Love and Thunder all went through significant reshoot periods. But Doomsday's continued filming this deep into 2026 speaks to the sheer scale of what the Russo Brothers are building.

This is the first Avengers film in seven years. It's bringing back Robert Downey Jr. — not as Tony Stark, but as Doctor Doom. It's returning Chris Evans as Steve Rogers. And it's pulling characters from 20th Century Fox's X-Men franchise into the MCU for the first time.

That's a lot of moving pieces to get right.

The Spoiler Conversation

The reshoot confirmation came during a broader discussion about spoiler culture. Russo acknowledged the tension between fan excitement and protecting surprises:

"On one hand, audiences want to be surprised, and that's part of what makes the theatrical experience exciting. On the other hand, it can become a little over-policed, where people are anxious about engaging with anything."

His sister and AGBO CCO Angela Russo-Otstot added: "A lot of thought goes into those twists and turns and reveals when it comes to not spoiling it for others. We're big believers in that and protecting the sanctity of the experience for everybody."

With four official Doomsday teasers already released and an Avengers: Endgame re-release coming with new footage connecting directly to Doomsday, Marvel is carefully controlling the narrative while building unprecedented hype.

The "Dunesday" Problem

There's one major challenge Doomsday faces that no amount of reshoots can fix: it's releasing on the same day as Dune: Part Three.

Denis Villeneuve's epic has already claimed all available IMAX theaters for its opening, forcing Avengers: Doomsday to settle for what's being called "Infinity Vision" — a premium format, but not the industry-standard IMAX experience that Endgame dominated.

This head-to-head battle — dubbed "Dunesday" by fans — could split the audience in a way Marvel hasn't faced since the MCU's peak. Whether both films can coexist as billion-dollar earners remains one of 2026's biggest box office questions.
