Card Market Impact

This teaser confirms Wakanda and Fantastic Four characters are all in Doomsday. The Thing is particularly undervalued with fewer cards in circulation than most Marvel characters.

Wakanda Meets the Fantastic Four: M'Baku, The Thing, and the Desert Alliance

The fourth Avengers: Doomsday teaser delivers something nobody predicted: the Wakandan nation and the Fantastic Four standing side by side in a barren desert, preparing for war. This is not just a crossover — it is a statement about what Doctor Doom's threat has done to the world. When the ocean people are forced onto land and the most technologically advanced nation on Earth is reduced to marching through sand, you know the situation is catastrophic. Here is the full breakdown.

The Desert Setting: A World Transformed (0:00 - 0:12)

The teaser opens with a vast, sweeping shot of an endless desert landscape at sunset. The golden sand stretches to the horizon, broken only by distant rock formations and what appears to be the ruins of a city partially buried in dunes. Wakandan Royal Talon Fighters glide overhead in formation, their vibranium hulls catching the dying sunlight.

This setting immediately raises questions. Wakanda is a lush, tropical nation hidden in East Africa. The Talokanil live deep beneath the ocean. Why are both civilizations operating in a desert? The most logical explanation is that Doctor Doom has literally reshaped the geography of the planet — draining oceans, turning fertile land to wasteland, demonstrating the kind of god-level terraforming power that only someone wielding cosmic-level abilities could achieve.

The Meeting of Kings (0:12 - 0:30)

The centerpiece of this teaser is the meeting between King M'Baku of Wakanda and Ben Grimm — The Thing — of the Fantastic Four. M'Baku, wearing ornate Jabari ceremonial armor with vibranium accents, approaches with the regal bearing of a king who has seen war. He introduces himself formally: "I am M'Baku, King of Wakanda, Lord of the Jabari, protector of the Golden City."

The Thing's response is perfect: "Ben. Yancy Street, between Broome and Grand."

This exchange encapsulates everything about these two characters. M'Baku is royalty, tradition, and ancient power. Ben Grimm is working-class New York, blue-collar toughness, and street-level heroism. They could not be more different, yet they are standing together because the threat demands it. The contrast also provides the teaser's only moment of levity — a brief smile crosses M'Baku's face, suggesting mutual respect between two warriors who understand that titles mean nothing when the world is ending.

Shuri's Narration: Loss and Duty (0:30 - 0:45)

Shuri provides the teaser's voiceover, and her words carry the weight of everything Wakanda has endured since T'Challa's death: "We have lost kings. We have lost brothers. We have lost the world we knew. But we have never lost our purpose."

As she speaks, we see a montage of Wakandan forces preparing for battle. The Dora Milaje march in formation across the desert sand, their vibranium spears glinting. Jabari warriors pound their shields rhythmically. And then — the surprise — Namor and a contingent of Talokanil warriors appear on the surface, walking on land, their aquatic features looking strained and uncomfortable in the dry heat.

The Talokanil being on land is perhaps the most alarming visual in any of the four teasers. These are a people who have lived underwater for centuries, who went to war with Wakanda to protect their ocean home. For them to be on the surface means their ocean is gone — or so contaminated that it can no longer sustain them. This is what Doom has done.

The Fantastic Four's Role (0:45 - 0:55)

Beyond The Thing, we get brief glimpses of other Fantastic Four members. A figure in a blue and white suit (likely Reed Richards) is seen examining holographic maps of the transformed landscape. A translucent force field (Sue Storm's invisible barrier) protects a group of refugees from a sandstorm. And a streak of flame (Johnny Storm) arcs across the sky alongside the Wakandan fighters.

The Fantastic Four appear to be acting as both scientists and soldiers — analyzing Doom's terraforming while simultaneously fighting alongside Wakanda. This makes sense given their comic book history: the FF are explorers first, fighters second, and Reed Richards is one of the few minds in the Marvel Universe capable of understanding (and potentially countering) Doom's technology.

The Alliance Forms (0:55 - 1:07)

The final shot before the title card shows M'Baku and The Thing standing side by side on a cliff overlooking the desert, watching as a massive army assembles below — Wakandans, Talokanil, and what appears to be Fantastic Four technology all integrated into a single fighting force. The camera pulls back to reveal the scale: thousands of warriors preparing for a battle that will determine the fate of the planet.

The text reads: "Wakanda And The Fantastic Four Will Return In Avengers: Doomsday." This is the only teaser that names two groups rather than one, emphasizing the alliance as the story's focus.

Theories: Why Doom Targets Wakanda

In the comics, Doctor Doom has a complex relationship with Wakanda. He has invaded the nation multiple times, seeking vibranium for his technological ambitions. In one storyline, Doom successfully conquered Wakanda and stripped its vibranium reserves. If the MCU Doom is following a similar path, his first move may have been to neutralize Wakanda's technological advantage — explaining why the nation has been forced to fight in a desert rather than from behind their advanced defenses.

The Fantastic Four connection is even more direct. Victor Von Doom and Reed Richards are college rivals in the comics — their intellectual competition is the foundation of Doom's villainy. Having the FF fight alongside Wakanda against Doom brings both the personal and political dimensions of the conflict together.

What This Means for Collectors

This teaser confirms two major card market catalysts: Wakanda characters (M'Baku, Shuri, Namor) and Fantastic Four characters (The Thing, Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm) are all in Doomsday. That is a massive roster of collectible characters, many of whom have relatively low card populations compared to A-listers like Iron Man or Spider-Man.

The Thing in particular is an undervalued play. He has fewer cards in circulation than most Marvel characters, and his role as the comedic heart of this teaser will make him a fan favorite. Browse our Card Database for Fantastic Four and Wakanda cards.
