Magneto is many things — a Holocaust survivor, a revolutionary, a terrorist, a king, and occasionally a hero. But above all else, he is a father. And his relationship with his children — Wanda Maximoff (Scarlet Witch), Pietro Maximoff (Quicksilver), and Lorna Dane (Polaris) — is one of the most complicated, painful, and consequential family dynamics in all of comics.

When Wanda said "No more mutants" in House of M #7 (2005), she didn't just change the Marvel Universe. She broke her father's heart and his life's work in three words. That's the power of the House of Magnus — they don't just fight villains. They reshape reality itself.

Magneto: The Father Forged in Tragedy

Erik Magnus Lehnsherr (born Max Eisenhardt) survived the Holocaust as a child. That trauma — watching his family murdered by humans — became the foundation of his entire philosophy: mutants must never be victims again, even if that means becoming the oppressor.

Key Comic: Uncanny X-Men #150 (1981) — Magneto's full backstory revealed. His wife Magda fled from him after witnessing his powers, pregnant with twins.

Key Comic: X-Men #4 (1964) — Magneto's first encounter with Wanda and Pietro as members of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. He doesn't know they're his children yet. He treats them as soldiers.

Key Comic: Vision and the Scarlet Witch #4 (1983) — Magneto is confirmed as the father of Wanda and Pietro. The revelation changes everything about their relationship.

Scarlet Witch: The Daughter Who Broke the World

Wanda Maximoff's chaos magic makes her one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe — and one of the most dangerous. Her reality-warping abilities aren't just mutations; they're connected to something deeper, something that even the Sorcerer Supreme fears.

Key Comic: Avengers #16 (1965) — Wanda and Pietro leave their father's Brotherhood to join the Avengers. This is the first fracture in the family — choosing heroism over Magneto's war.

Key Comic: Avengers Disassembled (2004) — Wanda's mental breakdown. She kills Hawkeye, destroys the Avengers Mansion, and eliminates Vision. Her power, unchecked by sanity, is catastrophic.

Key Comic: House of M #1-8 (2005) — Wanda creates an alternate reality where mutants rule and Magneto is king. When it collapses, she utters the words that decimated mutantkind: "No more mutants." 91.4% of the world's mutant population loses their powers instantly.

This is the moment that defines the House of Magnus. A daughter's love for her father — twisted by grief and madness — nearly destroys his entire species.

Quicksilver: The Son Who Could Never Be Fast Enough

Pietro Maximoff is defined by impatience — with the world, with his father, with himself. His super-speed makes everyone else seem frozen, and that isolation has driven him to terrible decisions.

Key Comic: Avengers #75 (1970) — Pietro marries Crystal of the Inhumans, creating a bridge between mutants and Inhumans.

Key Comic: Son of M #1-6 (2006) — After losing his powers in House of M, Pietro steals Terrigen Crystals from the Inhumans to restore himself. He's so desperate to matter that he betrays his wife's people.

Key Comic: Magneto #1-21 (2014) — Pietro and Magneto's relationship explored in depth. The son who can never live up to his father's expectations, and the father who can never express love without it becoming control.

Market Signal

Scarlet Witch cards have maintained premium pricing since WandaVision, and Magneto family cards are rising with X-Men MCU integration announcements.

Polaris: The Forgotten Daughter

Lorna Dane is Magneto's daughter from another relationship — and for decades, Marvel kept her parentage ambiguous. She has her father's magnetic powers but none of his rage, making her the family member most likely to bridge the gap between Xavier's dream and Magneto's war.

Key Comic: Uncanny X-Men #431 (2003) — Polaris confirmed as Magneto's biological daughter.

Key Comic: X-Factor #243 (2012) — Lorna confronts her father directly about his absence from her life. It's one of the most emotionally raw scenes in X-Men history.

The Next Generation: Wiccan and Speed

Wanda's twin sons — Billy Kaplan (Wiccan) and Tommy Shepherd (Speed) — were originally created by Wanda's magic using fragments of the demon Mephisto's soul. When they were destroyed, their souls reincarnated into new bodies.

Key Comic: Young Avengers #1 (2005) — Billy (Wiccan) appears, with reality-warping powers matching his mother's.

Key Comic: Young Avengers #6 (2005) — Tommy (Speed) revealed, with super-speed matching his uncle Pietro's.

Key Comic: New Avengers #3 (2015) — Wiccan becomes the Demiurge, a cosmic entity destined to rewrite the rules of magic. The grandson of Magneto may be the most powerful sorcerer in Marvel's future.

The Parentage Retcon Wars

Marvel has repeatedly changed whether Magneto is actually Wanda and Pietro's father. Uncanny Avengers #4 (2015) claimed the High Evolutionary experimented on them and they weren't mutants at all. Later stories walked this back. The current status: Magneto IS their father, they ARE mutants, and the retcon was itself a manipulation.

This matters because it speaks to the family's core theme: identity is contested, belonging is fragile, and even your own blood can be rewritten by forces beyond your control.

The Doom Connection

Scarlet Witch's reality-warping powers are the closest analog to what Doom achieved with the Beyonders' power in Secret Wars. If Doom is reshaping reality in Avengers: Doomsday, Wanda is the natural counter — the only person who has already proven she can rewrite the universe with a sentence.

Additionally, Magneto and Doom have a complex history. Both are European monarchs (Genosha and Latveria). Both are survivors of persecution. Both believe they're saving their people through extreme measures. In many ways, Doom is what Magneto would be without the mutant cause — pure ego and ambition wrapped in armor.

House of Magnus cards benefit from both X-Men hype AND Avengers connections, making them uniquely positioned in the current market.
