The greatest rivalry in Marvel history. Thor and Hulk have been fighting since Avengers #1 in 1963, and sixty years later, fans still cannot agree on who wins. The God of Thunder versus the Strongest There Is. Mjolnir versus gamma-powered fists. Asgardian royalty versus pure rage incarnate. This is the matchup that started it all — and we are settling it definitively.
In the MCU, they fought in Thor: Ragnarok's gladiator arena (Hulk won by knockout before the Grandmaster intervened). In the comics, they have fought dozens of times with results split nearly evenly. This is the closest heavyweight matchup in all of Marvel.

The Combatants
Thor Odinson is an Asgardian god with millennia of combat experience. He wields Mjolnir (or Stormbreaker), which grants him control over lightning and storms, the ability to fly, and a weapon that can damage virtually anything in the universe. His Asgardian physiology gives him immense strength (Class 100+), near-invulnerability, and access to the Odinforce — a cosmic power source that elevates him to skyfather-level when fully unleashed.
Hulk (Bruce Banner) possesses strength with no theoretical upper limit — it increases proportionally with rage. His durability allows him to survive planetary-level attacks, his healing factor regenerates damage almost instantly, and his gamma physiology makes him resistant to most forms of energy. In World Breaker form, he has cracked the Eastern Seaboard with a single step and matched the Sentry blow for blow.

The Strength Question
At baseline, Thor and Hulk are roughly equal in strength — both in the 100+ ton class. But the Hulk's strength scales infinitely with anger, while Thor's has a ceiling (albeit an extremely high one). In a prolonged fight, the Hulk theoretically becomes stronger than Thor can match through physical force alone.
However, Thor is not limited to physical force. He has lightning, energy projection, the Odinforce, and Mjolnir — a weapon forged in the heart of a dying star. Thor has options that the Hulk does not. The Hulk's strategy is simple: hit harder. Thor can adapt, fly out of range, and attack from angles the Hulk cannot counter.
The Endurance Factor
Both have incredible stamina, but they function differently. Thor can fight for days without tiring — Asgardian physiology is built for extended warfare. The Hulk does not tire either, but his power fluctuates with emotion. If the Hulk calms down (unlikely in a fight with Thor, but possible), he weakens. If he gets angrier, he gets stronger.
Thor's lightning is one of the few things that can genuinely stagger the Hulk. Multiple direct lightning strikes have knocked Hulk unconscious in the comics. But it takes MASSIVE output — casual lightning bolts just make him angrier.

The Verdict: Thor Wins (With Full Power)
At full Asgardian power with Mjolnir, Thor edges this fight. Here is why: Thor has more ways to win. He can match Hulk physically in the early stages, use lightning to stagger him, fly to create distance when needed, and deliver Mjolnir strikes that carry the force of cosmic storms.
The Hulk's path to victory is simpler but harder to execute against Thor specifically: get angry enough to overpower Asgardian durability through sheer force. It is possible — World Breaker Hulk could do it — but standard Hulk against full-power Thor loses more often than he wins.
Winner: Thor — but only at full power with Mjolnir. Take away the hammer, and this flips to Hulk. The weapon is the difference-maker, not raw strength. In 10 fights, Thor wins 6, Hulk wins 4. This is as close as heavyweight matchups get.
