Top Stars
The Most Controversial Defender
Iron Fist Season 1 arrived with the weight of expectation — and largely buckled under it. Critics savaged the show for its pacing, fight choreography, and Finn Jones' performance. Yet the show still found an audience, and more importantly, it introduced characters and storylines that would pay off beautifully in later seasons and The Defenders.
Colleen Wing: The Real MVP
Jessica Henwick's Colleen Wing emerged as the show's breakout character. Her cage fighting scenes were the best action in the series, and her complex relationship with The Hand gave the show its most compelling storyline. Henwick would go on to become a fan-favorite across the Defenders shows.
Redemption Arc
While Season 1 stumbled, it's worth noting that Iron Fist Season 2 (with a new showrunner) was a massive improvement, and Danny Rand's appearances in Luke Cage Season 2 showed what the character could be with better writing. The seeds planted here — the Meachum family drama, Colleen's heritage — bore fruit later.
Fun Facts
- Finn Jones had only 3 weeks to train for fight scenes due to scheduling
- Jessica Henwick did most of her own cage fighting choreography
- The show was originally developed as a feature film before becoming a series
- Tom Pelphrey's Ward Meachum became a fan-favorite by season's end
- The boardroom drama was inspired by the Iron Man comics of the 1980s
Card Collector's Corner
Iron Fist Cards: Budget Picks with Upside
Iron Fist cards are among the most affordable in the Marvel Netflix collecting space, making them excellent entry points for budget collectors. Despite the show's mixed reception, the Iron Fist character has deep comic book history and the cards from 2018 Upper Deck Defenders feature great artwork. Colleen Wing cards are particularly undervalued given Jessica Henwick's rising star status.
